FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Parent Info night is intended for parents of children who will be in 4th-8th grade during the 2020-2021 school year and might be interested in FLL. In FLL, children are immersed in real-world science and technology challenges. Teams research and design their own solution to a current real world problem and build autonomous LEGO robots to perform a series of missions. Through their participation, children develop valuable life skills and discover exciting career possibilities while learning that they can make a positive contribution to society. This is not just playing with LEGOs - it involves research, problem solving, critical thinking, technology, robotics, and engineering. FLL is parent led on a volunteer basis. The FLL season begins on August 1.
Coach the Coaches Training Seminar
This event has been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Coaches new to FIRST LEGO League (FLL) are invited to attend a free coaching seminar. This is open to new coaches or parents who may be considering coaching in the upcoming FLL season. Participants will have the opportunity to actively participate in FLL activities. Training includes hands on demonstrations of the robot game, core values, and the research project. This is a practical "learn by doing" approach to coaching FLL. Coaches will walk away with ready to use materials and ideas for the season. New teams are encouraged to bring 2 to 4 coaches/parents to learn the basic structure of the FLL experience. This training seminar is provided free of charge by Ignite! FLL coaches Maureen Carrigan and Holy Traub through collaboration with Lakeville Area Community Education, but registration is required. You do not have to participate in FLL through Community Ed to attend this training.
FLL Mid Season Workshop
This event has been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Getting ready for your first FLL Tournament? Bring your team to this tournament prep session. This workshop is targeted specifically for teams that have never been to a competition, but all Lakeville FLL teams are welcome.
We will conduct mock judging sessions for Core Values, Research Project, Technical and Programming judging so that you can experience what these sessions will be like in a tournament. Please come, no matter what shape your robot game and research project are in. This is to help your team get prepared for a tournament, so if you feel that your team will never be ready, this is exactly what you need! This workshop is for coaches and team members. Parents and siblings are welcome to observe.
The mid season workshop is provided free of charge by ISD194 FLL coordinator Maureen Carrigan through collaboration with Lakeville Area Community Education, but registration is required. You do not have to participate in FLL through Community Ed to attend.
